ADDITIONAL “NO FRILLS” TOURNAMENT INFORMATION

The Illinois Pickleball Association (IPA) is hosting this year’s 6th Annual IPA Charity Memorial pickleball tournament benefitting the Boys and Girls Clubs of Central Illinois.

The IPA is a not-for-profit organization, dedicated to promoting the play of pickleball for the benefit of youth, seniors and those in the community who require activity to improve their health. Each year, IPA holds the IPA Charity Memorial Tournament to help a local 501(c)3 organization to help raise funds to further its objectives.

WHY “NO FRILLS” – While life has somewhat returned to “normal” and the pandemic could perhaps be considered “under control” there is still much uncertainty regarding new variants, current CDC guidance, etc.  Last year we hosted a successful “No Frills” tournament and we are  hoping to continue this format as our whole goal is to raise funds to benefit our charity of the year. The IPA hopes the idea of getting exercise, fresh air, good competition and knowing their  entry fee goes to the charity of the year will entice people to play even though there will be no “prizes” for the winners.

Tournament Format

Divisions:  3.0, 3.5 and 4.0+

For adult men’s and women’s doubles (Saturday, 8/21/21) and mixed doubles (Sunday 8/22/21), teams will be assigned to the skill level of the highest rated partner. A round robin format will be played for all divisions. Once the round robin has been completed, the top four teams from each division will have a play-off to determine first, second and third place rankings.

Officiating:  All games will be self-officiated. If a controversy arises, IPA will provide an impartial official to mediate and resolve the problem. Please remember this is for “fun” and “to support a charity” so please be generous in your self-officiated calls.

Seating:  Please bring chairs

Restrooms:  Available

Food/Water:  We plan to provide bananas, granola bars (individually wrapped) and water.

Warm-up:  Teams are not allowed to “warm up” on an open court unless they are the next scheduled team to play on that court. This will allow us to know when a game is over so we can alert the next two teams and keep the tournament moving.

Directions: approximately 10 minutes south of Springfield, IL. You can get to and from the Park via either I-55 or Rt. 4. Check your Garmin or phone for detailed directions.

Miscellaneous:  50/50 tickets are being sold for $1 each or 6 tickets for $5. The 50/50 drawing will be held on Sunday, August 22. The proceeds will go 50% to the winning ticket holder and 50% to the Boys and Girls Clubs of Central Illinois. Winner need not be present. See Illinois Pickleball Facebook page for further details.
